Titanium

Titanium is a lustrous, silver-colored transition metal (Ti, atomic number 22) renowned for its high strength-to-weight ratio, low density, and exceptional corrosion resistance. It is mainly used in aerospace, medical implants, and pigments (as TiO2), and occurs naturally in minerals like rutile and ilmenite.

Key Details:

Chemical Formula (Element): Ti

Common Compound Formula: TiO2 (Titanium Dioxide – white pigment)

Description: A strong, lightweight, corrosion-resistant, and biocompatible metal.

Primary Uses:

  • Aerospace & Industry: Aircraft engines, spacecraft, and marine equipment due to its high strength-to-weight ratio and corrosion resistance.
  • Pigments: TiO2 is used extensively in paints, plastics, paper, and toothpaste as a brilliant white pigment.
  • Medical: Surgical instruments and orthopedic implants (bones/teeth) because it is non-toxic and biocompatible.
  • Consumer Goods: Sunscreens, jewelry, and sports equipment.
