Propellant casting for India's AGNI Strategic Systems utilizes high-energy composite solid fuel. The mixture typically comprises Ammonium Perchlorate (AP) as an oxidizer, Aluminium (Al) powder as fuel, and Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB) as a binder. This cast-bonded propellant provides high-thrust, stable, and reliable propulsion for multi-stage, long-range ballistic missiles.

Description:

The propellant mixture is prepared as a slurry and poured (cast) into the missile motor casing. A star-configured mandrel is used to create specific grain geometries that control the burning surface area and rate. Once cast, the propellant is cured to form a solid, durable, and rubbery grain capable of withstanding storage and operational stresses.

• Main solid rocket motor propellant for all stages of the AGNI missile series (Agni-I to Agni-V/VI).
