QRSAM Solid Propellant
The QRSAM (Quick Reaction Surface-to-Air Missile) uses a high-energy solid
composite propellant designed for rapid-response, short-to-medium range
air defense missions. The propellant provides consistent thrust for
interception and maneuverability of the missile in supersonic flight.
Chemical Composition & Formula (General):
While exact formulas are proprietary, typical QRSAM propellants consist of:
- Oxidizer: Ammonium Perchlorate (NH4ClO4).
- Fuel / Binder: Hydroxyl-Terminated Polybutadiene (HTPB) or similar synthetic rubber binder.
- Metal Fuel: Aluminum powder (Al) to increase energy output and combustion temperature.
Description:
The QRSAM propellant is cast into solid grains with optimized geometry
to regulate burn rate and ensure uniform thrust throughout the missile’s
flight. It is engineered for high stability, rapid ignition, and
controlled combustion suitable for tactical air defense applications.
Use:
- Primary propulsion of QRSAM missiles during short-range interception missions.
- Ensures rapid response and high maneuverability to engage aerial threats such as aircraft and missiles.
- Offers storability, instant readiness, and reliability compared to liquid-fueled systems.
Key Characteristics:
- High-energy composite propellant optimized for supersonic flight.
- Stable for long-term storage and operational readiness.
- Engineered grain geometry for uniform thrust and controlled burn rate.
- Supports quick-reaction air defense missions with consistent performance.
