Pyrogen igniters are small, specialized solid-propellant motors used to reliably initiate larger rocket engines. Description:

A pyrogen igniter functions as a “mini-motor” mounted at the bulkhead of a larger rocket motor. Upon electrical initiation, it produces a high-velocity, particle-laden flame ("torch") that rapidly raises pressure and uniformly heats the propellant surface. This ensures consistent ignition across the entire grain and prevents startup malfunctions.
